Ingredients

  • For the casserole:
  • 1 (14-16 ounce) loaf sourdough or French bread, cut into chunks
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cups Funfetti® cake mix
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 5 tablespoons multicolored sprinkles
  • For the topping:
  • 1 cup Funfetti cake mix
  • 1 stick salted butter, cut into pieces
  • icing or frosting, optional, to taste, of your choice, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -Grease a 9x13-inch casserole dish.

Step 2 -In a large bowl, add the bread chunks.

Step 3 -In a separate large bowl, add the eggs, the milk, the heavy cream, 2 cups of the cake mix, the cinnamon, and the vanilla extract and whisk to combine.

Step 4 -Pour the egg mixture over the bread chunks and gently stir to combine.

Step 5 -Pour the bread mixture into the prepared casserole dish and spread it out evenly.

Step 6 -Spread the sprinkles evenly over the top of the bread mixture.

Step 7 -Cover the casserole dish and chill it for at least 8 hours and up to overnight.

Step 8 -Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

Step 9 -Uncover the casserole and bake for 25-30 minutes.

Step 10 -In a bowl, add the remaining cake mix and the butter and mix to combine until a crumbly mixture forms.

Step 11 -Sprinkle the crumbly mixture on top of the casserole and bake until the casserole and the topping are cooked through, about 10-25 minutes.

Step 12 -Serve the casserole warm with the icing.
