No one else's version can compare to the way these plump shrimp taste wrapped in the sweet, tangy sauce. The tender broccoli adds a nice, refreshing bite to really balance out all the flavors. Ingredients
- 1 clove garlic, grated
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1/3 cup ketchup
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined, tails removed
- kosher salt, to taste
- freshly ground black pepper, to taste
- vegetable oil, to taste
- 1 large head broccoli, cut into florets, steamed and warm, for serving
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Directions
Step 1 -In a skillet over medium-low heat, combine the garlic, the soy sauce, the vinegar, the sugar, the ketchup, and the mustard.
Step 2 -Bring the sauce mixture to a boil, then turn off the heat.
Step 3 -In a shallow bowl, add the cornstarch.
Step 4 -In a medium bowl, add the shrimp and evenly season them with the salt and the pepper.
Step 5 -Dredge the seasoned shrimp in the cornstarch.
Step 6 -In a large skillet over medium-high heat, add the oil.
Step 7 -Add the seasoned shrimp to the heated oil in batches and cook until they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees F and are golden.
Step 8 -Spoon the sauce over the cooked shrimp and stir-fry until they are slightly caramelized.
Step 9 -Evenly plate the warm broccoli and top with the cooked shrimp.
Step 10 -Serve the shrimp garnished with the sesame seeds.
