  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, room temperature, finely shredded
  • 1 French baguette, sliced, for serving

Directions

Step 1 -In a large pot or skillet over medium heat, add the ground beef, the onions, and the bell peppers and cook, while crumbling the meat and stirring often, until the beef is no longer pink, about 5-8 minutes.

Step 2 -Drain the excess fat from the pot.

Step 3 -Add the garlic to the beef mixture and cook, while stirring, until fragrant, about 1 minute.

Step 4 -Add the flour to the beef mixture and cook, while stirring, until incorporated and the raw flour smell disappears, about 1 minute.

Step 5 -Add the brown sugar, the Dijon mustard, the Worcestershire sauce, the salt, the black pepper, and the cayenne pepper to the beef mixture and stir well to combine.

Step 6 -Add the chicken broth and the ketchup to the beef mixture and stir until combined.

Step 7 -Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer the beef mixture until it has thickened, about 30 minutes.

Step 8 -Pour the beef mixture into a serving dish.

Step 9 -Sprinkle the beef mixture with the cheese and allow it to melt.

Step 10 -Serve with the baguette slices.
